…. they were unschooled, ordinary men …. they had been with Jesus …. the crippled man healed standing with them – Acts 4:13,14

Simple, everyday relationship, friendship with Jesus – Mark 2:17

Last Sunday, heard a memorable description of a Christian’s daily relationship with Jesus, … that’s easy to understand and explain to others.
(more so, with growing interest in wellness and keeping healthy)

Was having breakfast with a dear uncle from China in his late 70s.
— a healthy, cheerful grandfather, … able to keep up with us, younger folks.

Uncle recently came to know Jesus.

Uncle said.
“When we go to the doctor,

… we have to specifically tell him  how we’re feeling, … pain, … discomfort, … & where is it … etc, … right ?

To recover our health, … we have to listen to our doctor’s advice — like exercise,   eating the right food,   avoid stuff that’s bad for us, etc.

And, … we have to follow the doctor’s instructions
and take the medication regularly.”

” 很棒 … Wonderful, … Uncle, 叔叔  🙂  ,
you’ve so beautifully & wisely described something Jesus said in the Bible,”

Uncle smiled, … as he sipped his tea.

Here’s the verse:

Mark 2:17 (NLT)
When Jesus heard this, he told them,
“Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.

I have come to call not those
who think they are righteous,

but
those who know they are sinners.”

Thus,

Having some nagging pain or discomfort, etc ?

some folks endure it, … others deny it,

some try to solve it themselves, … self-medicate, etc,

while others … head to a caring doctor to seek for help,
acknowledging — ‘I have a problem, … that needs fixing’,
‘I need help’.

Thus, … when we first come to Jesus,
we recognise & acknowledge  — we have a problem that needs fixing;
i.e. “I need a right relationship with God,
I need to know Jesus personally.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,”
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved.
Romans 10:9 (NIV)

The right doctor or specialist, … cures our problem,
and we feel like a brand new person.

(no point wasting our time and money on the  wrong  doctor)

speak to the doctor … tell him clearly and specifically
The doctor listens.

Pray to the Lord, … speak to him what’s on our heart.
God listens & hears us when we pray.

He’s approachable, compassionate, and understands
our problem.  He’s walked and lived amongst us.

To recover our health, … we have to listen to our doctor’s advice

Reading & listening to God’s Word,
and making lifestyle changes.

God helps us through our day, daily, … as we’re changed from the inside out.

Then, we have to follow the doctor’s instruction
and take the medication regularly.”

Follow Jesus’ instructions daily.
Pray, read and follow  God’s word   regularly.
Keep our body and spirit healthy 🙂

Best of all, … Jesus, … our caring Doctor,
Himself paid   the full price   for our cure,
new life … through His blood.

Praise God!

Jesus’ words are simple and down-to-earth to remember,
in everyday words that we can relate and understand, in simple faith.

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit
—the Father will send Him in My name—

will teach you all things
and remind you of everything I have told you.
John 14:26 (HCSB)

21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said,

“I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned,
and revealed them to little children.

Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.”
Luke 10:21 (NIV)

Father, may we be like humble little children,
open to listen, & learn from you,
and live for you.
Thank you.
Amen.

Teach me your ways, Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
let me wholeheartedly revere your name.
Psalm 86:11 (ISV)

牵我的手” (Hold My Hand)

On a final note, Jesus statement that He is the good doctor,
was in reply to an interesting observation,

When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him
eating with the sinners and tax collectors,
they asked his disciples:

“Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
Mark 2:16 (NIV)

Unlike the religious leaders,   (and others like them)
… Jesus hangs out with the worst in society;

only Jesus has the cure !

Each and every tax collector and sinner, etc
… each one,
was worth Jesus saving, … worth Jesus to die for,

including you and me.

The Lord is my good  doctor

Paul is especially thankful,

13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man,
I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.

14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly,
along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance:
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners
—of whom I am the worst.

1 Timothy 1:13-15 (NIV)

Our doctor, Jesus cures impossible cases,
turning violent, persecuting Saul … to Paul for His glory    (Acts 9).
Praise God for His amazing grace !

Jesus is just a prayer away,
and He makes personal house calls, 24/7.
